Horse Abuse & Neglect ~ Horses Who Need More Love

Horse abuse and neglect - more common than you might think!
Many horse abuse cases are actually neglect by owners no longer capable of caring properly for the horses on their property. Rather than sell the horses to potential good owners, they continue to think they can keep them but aren't willing or able to do what needs to be done to provide adequate care for them.
Other cases of horse abuse stem from ignorance. People think it is okay to hit or otherwise torture them. This lens is filled with the video evidence and ends with a link to a horse charity for formerly abused and/or neglected horses.
Emaciated horses found at "rescue" farm
Animal abuse charges were filed against a jailed Maryland woman whose 'rescue' farm turned bad. Horses left to die of starvation and dehydration were found and rescued in September 2010.
Thousands of homeless horses are sold to slaughterhouses to be put to death when they can't be sold at auctions.
In 2005 a man was angry at his horse. He said it tried to bite one of his children. His solution was to tie the horse to his truck and drag it until it collapsed from dehydration and exhaustion. Its hooves were worn to the bone.
Rodeo horses are abused at an alarming rate. The videos below give proof of the statements at RodeoCruelty.Com.

Ruffian, an amazing race horse
In 1974 Ruffian won the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Two-Year-Old Filly.
She was known as "Queen of the Fillies".
In 1975 she won the Filly Triple Crown, also called the Triple Tiara.
She was UNDEFEATED.
Only a few months later, on July 6, 1975, she was injured during a race.
Mismanagement of her treatment after surgery led to her death. She should have been restrained as she woke up, but wasn't, and reinjured herself so severely she had to be put down. This led to changes in equine medical treatment procedures.

This brings tears to my eyes. People are so cruel. Thanks for making people aware of this abuse.
