Aroma Rice Cooker: Instructions and Simple Recipes

By

I love my Aroma rice cooker!

I'm not associated with the Aroma company - I'm just a very satisfied customer... and owner of an Aroma 8-Cup Digital Rice Cooker and Food Steamer. This is one of the most valuable and convenient kitchen appliances I've ever purchased.

Talk about easy and delicious food! This rice cooker makes it with no mess, no fuss. It is easy to use, and easy to clean up.

I use five cups brown rice, add 6+3/4 cups water, and put chopped veggies on top in the steamer. Close it, turn it on, and voila! About two hours later, I have a delicious meal ready! I'm a vegetarian, so this creates my entire meal unless I decide to have a salad on the side. Yield: 10 cups wonderfully steamed brown rice, and delicious steamed veggies.

Of course you can also use white rice, and different amounts. Check page 11 of the Aroma Rice Cooker Instruction Manual - and page 12 for cooking times.

How to use an Aroma rice cooker

Here are some of my favorite rice cooker recipes... just simple dinners - often using vegetables from my garden:

California Rice and Vegetables: 4 cups brown rice, 6+3/4 cups water, and 1 cup lentils in the bottom. In the steamer on top: potatoes, peeled and quartered, carrots, peeled, cut in half, and fresh broccoli.

Garden Treasures Steamed Rice: 5 cups brown rice, 6+3/4 cups water in the bottom. In the steamer on top: freshly picked snow peas and potatoes, peeled and quartered. (I've also made this with fresh green beans.)

Mexican Style Steamed Rice: 5 cups white rice, 5+1/2 cups water, and 1/2 onion, chopped in the bottom of the steamer. When rice is cooked add 2 tomatoes, peeled and chopped, and 1 finely chopped fresh chill. Optional: shredded cheddar cheese and/or fresh chopped cilantro sprinkled on top just before serving. To peel the tomatoes: simply heat water almost to a boil, then toss in your tomatoes. After about thirty seconds to a minute, take them out and you'll find the peel easy to remove.

Squash Delight Steamed Rice: 5 cups brown rice, 6+3/4 water in the bottom. In the steamer on top: chopped zucchini and chopped yellow winter squash, peeled and chopped - as much as you can fit.

NOTE: You might notice no salt is used in these recipes. You can add it to your rice cooker if you think you need it, or add it after the rice is steamed. I make mine without salt and that is also the recommendation of the Aroma company.

I have seen these in use but did not know you could cook other foods at the same time.

I love using my rice cooker... it makes an entire meal very quickly and easily, since I'm vegetarian. Bob adds fish to his plate.
