Battlestar Galactica DVDs - The Best Television Show DVDs Ever
66Battlestar Galactica - Survivors of a Catastrophy in Constant Conflict
I loved it when President Laura Roslin told Commander Adama that they would have to kill the Admiral. She is such a sweet and dignified personage, so totally respectable, that to hear her suggest that the Admiral be killed is shocking... yet it comes as a welcome relief.
If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you probably haven’t seen Battlestar Galactica - the “reimagined” TV series that originally aired starting in 2003, through 2009.
Oh my goodness. How could anyone miss such a great show? Everytime I meet someone who hasn’t watched it, I am astounded and sad, because I know it probably sounds like “just another TV show” when I try to describe it, but it is the most amazing, profound and beautiful story ever told.

I don't watch TV, but I do buy movies to watch, and Battlestar Galactica DVDs are available as a boxed set - you can watch the entire show from the original miniseries through season four-point-five. Right now I’m watching the entire show straight through from beginning to end for the third time, and let me tell you, I am loving it just as much this time as I did the first time I saw it. Watching it through again is like going to visit with dear old friends. I love every member of this cast, even the characters we all love to hate... like scary Admiral Cain.
The President
President Laura Roslin vs. Admiral Helena Cain
You see, after Caprica and the twelve colonies were destroyed by Cylons (robots that got out of control and recreated themselves in human-like form) Battlestar Galactica’s crew thought they were the only battlestar left undestroyed in the attack. However nine months later they encountered another battlestar, the Pegasus. And the Pegausus’ commander was none other than the formidable female control-tripping megalomaniac, Admiral Helena Cain. (Appropriately named!)
Now why would the President suggest to the Commander that the Admiral should die? This was so out of character for President Laura Roslin, a sweet-faced older woman played by Mary McDonnell, better known for her role as “Stands With A Fist” in Dances with Wolves... so Roslin's statement, “We’ve got to kill her” comes as a surprise.
Well, of course I’m not giving any more specific details. I’m just saying, it is one of my favorite moments in Season 2.5 of the show. Definitely a turning point the viewers are grateful for because Admiral Cain walked right in and ruined everything for Battlestar Galactica with her high and mighty ways.
The Commander
I'm Hooked on Battlestar Galactica DVDs
At this point I’m thinking “A Day Without Battlestar Galactica is Like a Day Without Sunshine” ... or something like that. I honestly would feel very disappointed if I didn’t get to see a few episodes this evening. I want that much to be back out in outer space with the cast.
My boyfriend / partner / very significant other got me started on this. He watched the entire series before I started, and kept saying how much he loved it. So I finally took a look at one of the shows, and became intrigued. We started over at the beginning and I was hooked.
The man on the right is the Battlestar Galactica's commander, William Adama. He played the part to perfection.
Why Did It Have To End...? Battlestar Galactica was the Best TV Show Ever!
One thing I love about the show is that it tells an entire story that is very meaningful and enthralling... the concept is both majestic and desperate. A civilization is destroyed by robots they built, and a small band of survivors escapes, followed by cylons (the robots) who try to destroy them. Though there’s only about 50,000 human beings left, they travel through the universe in search of a mythical planet that was mentioned in their scriptures, called Earth.
The first time I watched the series, I kept wondering what would happen if they found Earth. Would they come in at our time, or the future, or at some time in the past? And how would humans here react to the entry of these space travelers? It really kept me going as I wondered what would happen in the end. Of course, I can’t tell you the end because I am not into writing spoilers... but I will say there is a very satisfying ending to all this, and though the last episode is one of my favorites, it is also sad because it is the last and I would prefer that the show continue on forever. And ever. And ever.
...However... I guess those actors, directors and producers wanted to move on to other things. Battlestar Galactica was amazing and powerful, but they were pursuing their creative careers and ... still, I can’t help but wish it hadn’t ended.
Well, the good part is that this amazing, heart-capturing series is available on DVD and is a treasure available to anyone willing to put disk one in, and get hooked.
Highly recommended.
Have You Seen Battlestar Galactica?
Ever watched it? When it was on TV critics said it was the best television show ever. I do believe it. Now, I don’t watch television at all, but I do sometimes watch entire TV series later on, via DVD. I watched all of LOST and enjoyed it... but LOST didn’t have the heart-grabbing power Battlestar Galactica has, by a long shot. So if you were a fan of LOST and haven’t seen Battlestar Galactica... think of LOST x 2 or 3 and you might have an idea of how good this show is.
Do not hop into the show in the middle. Start from the beginning and watch it all in chronological order. That way you’ll get the entire Battlestar Galactica story.
