HubChallenge - My Experience

The HubChallenge was a great way to get started here at HubPages! I'd had an account for over a year, and was a bit intimidated by the prospect of hub-making so I didn't make my first hub until October 19, 2010. Now, on November 14, 2010, less than a month later, I have thirty hubs! It took 26 days. I'm not the speediest hub-maker ever, but still, it wasn't all that bad. Because I had the pressure of trying to complete the 30-day HubChallenge (thirty hubs in thirty days) I managed to keep at it.

For the most part I made one hub daily but this morning I got up and made five hubs between 1am and 7:30am! I was in a hurry to finish because I have jury duty in a few days... something I've looked forward to for a long time. I've never been on a jury before!

These last five hubs were all sales hubs - for toys and watercolor gifting, and a product review on my rice cooker which I absolutely love and recommend. These hubs were fast and easy to make... not a lot of mental cogitation went into them but it was fun to find the products and add them to the hub.

Financial freedom? ...Not yet!

I'm still waiting for huge sums of money to show up in my AdSense and Amazon accounts... but in the meantime, I'm having fun here.

I was super-worried for a while that my AdSense wasn't set up right. Finally I just let go of all the worry and decided to put it out of my mind. Surprise! The next morning I got a click that was actually worth something more than a penny and less than a dollar - so I was very happy to know it was set up right and I don't need to worry about it anymore. Now I just need to be patient and realize that it takes time to get the kind of traffic I'll need to make HubPages profitable.

Amazon has been surprisingly low this month... I usually get more from my other sites. Guess I'll have to keep hoping that these HubPages product recommendations will eventually bear fruit and bring in some steady income.

I haven't set up an eBay account yet. I'm considering it. Since I have my own websites I'm sure I could get approved for that affiliate program. One step at a time. If I get an account I'll probably add eBay to all my hubs.

I noticed other people mentioned that the HubChallenge helped increase their traffic. Well, I'm not one of those. My hub traffic is still not all that impressive. Maybe six months from now I'll like the numbers better. These things take time!

NEXT: Hub Promotion!

For the next thirty days I'm going to make a concerted effort to promote the hubs I've already made. I've already got a detailed promotional system. So far I haven't felt ready to share it with the public, but it puts me through an intense workout for each hub. I'll take them one at a time and try to do my best to make every one of these hubs a winner!

Hi Linda, congratulations on meeting the 30 day challenge. I'm interested in doing it--after the holidays! I'll be back to read more of your hubs.

Well done on completing the challenge. I tried it once and only made it to eight so I have nothing but admiration for any one who completes 30 hubs in 30 days. Your hubs are great by the way.

TopUniverse... one of these days I'll release my promo info - maybe in the form of an e-book people have to pay for. With all the work I'm doing to develop the information, I think, perhaps, I should release only to the few that will pay for it.

Karanda, thanks so much for your kind compliment! Eight hubs or thirty, any hub-making is a step toward a better lifestyle. Let's celebrate!

Oh, by the way, I take back what I said about "these things take time". I've got a Squidoo lens I made only a week ago that is now bringing in 300+ hits weekly. I guess if you hit it right with a popular topic, a lens can excel right away - or a hub, either one. I just haven't found the best hub topics yet - though my Peppermint Christmas Decor Ideas hub is doing pretty good for a new hub.

Well, one hub at a time...

At Home: A Short History of Private Life
A fascinating new book by Bill Bryson. He takes you through each room of his 19th century parsonage. It sounds like a grand old house. In each room his mind wanders to research and reveal multiple secrets of history - mostly British history but some US history as well. I recently listened to this (the audiobook version) and learned lots of fascinating trivia. Also, I was introduced to many historical figures, including famous landscapers and architects! I recommend this to anyone who would like to know why a hall is called a hall, or why people used to have a room called the drawing room. There are lots of other fascinating facts. I couldn't put it down!
